API First. Always.

Everything in project:RS2 is exposed through a clean REST API. Every upload, search, transform, tag, and permission check — all API. Our interface is just one client sitting on top of it.

If you don't like our UI — or your brand has specific requirements, or you want it embedded inside your own platform — it doesn't matter. Hand the API to any web designer or front-end developer and they can build you exactly the interface you want. From scratch. Your colors, your layout, your language.

The back end handles the hard parts: asset storage, AI tagging, format transformation, search indexing, permissions. The front end is just HTML, CSS, and a handful of API calls.

ResourceSpace changed how we think about media management. The team behind it built something that has served organizations around the world for over two decades — and we've been alongside it the whole time.

We are not the creators of ResourceSpace. We are longtime users who know it deeply — the metadata field system, the collections, the resource types, the permissions model. We've run it, extended it, and recommended it for years.

project:RS2 is our answer to a question we kept asking ourselves: what would we build if we started from scratch today?

Getting Here

Moving from ResourceSpace to project:RS2 is straightforward. Two scripts, a Docker container, and you're running.

  • Export your RS data — one mysqldump command
  • Run the migration script — maps your metadata, fields, users, collections
  • Review the report — see exactly what's coming over before anything moves
  • Start RS2 — docker compose up and you're live

comes with you. All of it.

What's New
  • Instant search — typo-tolerant, faceted, sub-50ms via Typesense
  • AI tags on upload — every asset described, colored, and mood-tagged automatically
  • Format transformation — powered by ImageMagick and ffmpeg. 200+ image formats, 190+ video output formats, Ghostscript for PDF. If the tool supports it, RS2 can transform it. Define named presets or pass raw parameters through the API.
  • Cloud-native storage — R2, S3, MinIO, or local. Swap without touching your data.
  • Granular permissions — download, transform, export, share — controlled per group per asset type
  • Webhooks — fire on upload, tag complete, transform done. Connect anything.
